It was hard to narrow down my favourite books as I have read so much over the years so I decided to list my favourite authors instead. Some of these haven’t been read in some years but are so good that they have made an impact on my reading tastes and what I value in a piece of text. Although I am introduced to new authors and books all the time, these are the ones that stand out in my mind even now.
I say authors rather than individual books because I have enjoyed a variety of books of theirs, (if not all!) rather than just one. And even though I discover new authors everyday, there will always be a select few that stand out and have done an excellent job of leaving their mark once being read. With that being said, I have no restrictions on gaining new authors on my little list. Can never have too many favourites!
J Lynn/ Jennifer Armentrout
My first introduction to the Young Adult category. Her Lux series are the perfect combination of mystery, suspense, romance and teen angst along with paranormal elements. Also, if you’re into romance books then her Wait For Me series under the pseudonym J Lynn is something you have to try.
Nalini Singh
One of my top two favourite authors by far. Her story lines are so complex and the worlds she creates are fascinating and intriguing. Plus the characters are always full of life and humour, whilst the various relationships contain plenty of depth. If you’re looking for an adult paranormal read, then check out her Psy/Changeling and Guild Hunter series.
Kristen Ashley
Joint favourite with Singh, my ultimate romance author whose books I have reread many times over and wait eagerly for every new release. Each book draws so much emotion and presents real life situations, if there is a book that is guaranteed to make me laugh out loud, smile and cry at the same time it would be one of hers. She has a real gift with displaying raw emotion through the page and creating distinct characters. If you’re interested in alpha males who know what they want and strong females who catch their eye, then I highly recommend this author.
Penelope Douglas
Bully was the first novel I read that I found on a Goodreads list for friends turned enemies and has since turned into one of my favourite book series. The characters are so real and complex, dealing with serious issues and tough emotions during their high school/college years. But it’s their relationships and connections to one another that really reeled me in, along with the intense pull between the two main characters.
Sarah J Maas
I am so glad my friend recommend this author to me as she has fast turned into one of my favourite fantasy series writers. Everyone by now has heard of A Court of Thorns and Roses as well as A Throne of Glass, so it shouldn’t be a surprise that she is included in my list. The twists and turns in both of these series has left me on the edge of my set more than once and the characters are so badass it is almost unreal. If you haven’t read any books from either series then you are missing out. The hype is valid, trust me.
Anne Bishop
To be honest it took me awhile to get into her series The Others, but once I did it was well worth it. This is another fantasy series that has you guessing and is full of playful characters that draw you in. The serious but almost innocent relationship between the two main characters is so naive and vulnerable that it is impossible not to root for them. This is a series full off tensions, friendship, strength and otherworldly goodness wrapped up with a neat little bow. The various POVs make this an even more interesting read and helps to show the depth and complexity of the authors characters.
There are many more I could include but for times sake I’ve tried my best to keep it short and sweet.
Are any of these authors familiar to you? Who is on your favorite author list?
I haven’t actually read anything by these authors, but maybe I’ll have to check them out to get myself back into reading! Great post 😊

I’ve never heard of a couple of these authors and a couple I’ve had recommended to me, but haven’t read yet. I looove Anne Bishop though. I read the Dark Jewels trilogy years ago and fell in love with the characters and world she built between the pages of the books. I’ll have to check some of the others on this list out soon, thanks for sharing!

I read a lot (not as much as I’d like to!!) but I love that there are just so many excellent authors that I haven’t even heard of any of these! Look forward to checking some of them out. I’m start to add book reviews/recommendations on my blog to share what I love, so maybe some of these authors books will eventually feature 🙂

Hi, Chloe!
As soon as I’ve read a book I love, I always want to read more from that same author. I think it’s quite natural to compile a list of top authors as opposed to just top books. Writers often have their own unique style that can be observed across their entire catalogue of works.
Your choices are great, nice to see some new authors I haven’t heard of before too. Can’t wait to explore more, thanks for the inspiration!
